ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION: Founded in 1994, the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH) builds Latina power to guarantee the fundamental human right to reproductive health, dignity, and justice. POSITION Description:  NLIRH seeks a Policy Analyst to help promote a national policy agenda designed to protect the reproductive health and rights of Latinas, while supporting the policy needs of the state-based Latina Advocacy Networks (LANs). The Policy Analyst will lead and be responsible for the Sexual and Reproductive Health Equity portfolio.  As such, the Policy Analyst must be able to evaluate complex public programs, projects and studies, proposed federal and state legislation and current law in order to promote NLIRH’s policy and advocacy work in the area of Sexual and Reproductive Health Equity. The Policy Analyst will be supervised and report to the Senior Director of Government Relations in our Washington, D.C. office. The person in this position will work as part of a dynamic team and in coalition with movement partners.

LOCATION: Washington, D.C.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the Senior Director of Government Relations to implement and oversee short-and long-term policy projects as well as manage several individual projects that raise public awareness about the effectiveness of pending and existing legislation. Policy projects will focus on national and state topics related to sexual and reproductive health equity;
  • Conduct federal legislative analysis; research and prepare federal policy briefs, fact sheets, public education campaign materials and all other policy publications related to sexual and reproductive health equity;
  • Track targeted state’s legislative, legal, regulatory, and ballot initiative trends related to sexual and reproductive health equity;
  • Conduct state legislative analysis; research and prepare state fact sheets, public education campaign materials and all other sexual and reproductive health equity related publications on an as-needed basis;
  • Work with NLIRH’s Community Mobilization department to design and implement national, state, and local advocacy campaigns;
  • Coordinate and participate in meetings with members of Congress, state legislators, staffers and colleagues in the field of sexual and reproductive health equity;
  • Conduct trainings, presentations, and press interviews on behalf of NLIRH at national and local conferences, events, and state and federal legislative meetings and briefings, and represent NLIRH in national and local coalitions related to sexual and reproductive health equity;
  • Track and record all lobbying efforts in a timely manner;
  • Develop internal work plans, track progress towards goals, and report activities and outcomes with key members of the NLIRH team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree from accredited college or university and at least 2 years’ experience in federal and/or state government relations;
  • At least two years of experience in legislative/administrative policy development and advocacy experience on Capitol Hill or White House Administration required;
  • At least two years of experience in research, report production, or policy formulation at national and/or state level;
  • Candidates must have extensive knowledge of sexual and reproductive health equity and related social justice issues (immigration, Latino civil rights, etc.) with experience in policy advocacy and coalition building;
  • Excellent analytical, writing, speaking and advocacy skills;
  • Outstanding organizational and communications skills, including ability to work independently and as part of a team with staff at all levels. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and remain composed and focused under pressure;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in both Spanish and English preferred;
  • Demonstrated commitment to reproductive justice and/or Latino civil rights a must.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience​
