The Museums and Cultural Programs Division of the Parks and Recreation Department and MINDPOP are pleased to offer a fellowship for our longstanding Emerging Teaching Artists program. The purpose of the fellowship for Emerging Teaching Artists (ETA) is to increase the number of artists from under-represented communities in the classroom. Applicants will have a clear interest in teaching arts to children or adults, demonstrate a strong creative/arts background, and will come from an underrepresented community. A stipend for all ETA fellows will be given upon successful completion of the program.

PROGRAM DATES: July 17-August 23 | Monday & Wednesday evenings

APPLICATION DEADLINE: May 17th

ETA TEACHING ARTIST TRAINING: During the Summer of 2017, students will meet twice a week for 6 weeks as they learn the foundations of working as a teaching artist. The ETA seminar series will use hands-on, experiential learning, readings, and discussions with representatives from arts organizations to provide basic skills in curriculum development, classroom management, and career development.

FELLOWSHIP SELECTION: Fellowship selection will be awarded to individual artists from underrepresented communities who have a deep interest in teaching art to children or adults. No prior education experience is required. This fellowship is specifically for artists of diverse backgrounds and abilities.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS: Fellows will have access to a series of additional professional development workshops throughout the 2017-2018 school calendar year.

NETWORKING: Class participants will have access to other professional development and networking opportunities, including Creative Connections which are geared towards increasing employment and funding opportunities for Austin teaching artists.
