Call for Art: The Art of Coping
“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life” –Pablo Picasso
Art therapy uses the universal language of art to help express and organize emotions that can be hard to articulate. At The Art Therapy Practice, we emphasize the value of nurturing one’s artistic craft especially during times of hardship–no matter how simple or elaborate the process or product is. The evolving global crisis challenges us to call upon our innate creative potential to reframe and transform our struggles through the lens of artmaking–in all its forms–as an essential form of survival of the human spirit.
How are you creatively coping? Have you been experimenting in the kitchen or with a green thumb? Are you a TikTok dance star now? We invite you to submit images of your creative coping styles in the form of creative writing (poetry, prose, graphic novels) visual art (drawing, cartooning, painting, crafts, 3-D sculptural work, knitting, collage, etc.), or documentation of other creative hobbies adopted during the quarantine to be featured on our virtual art gallery via our website and social media platforms. No artistic experience is necessary and you can submit as many times as you like–we hope to inspire others to utilize art as therapy during this stressful time.
