Maryann Aguirre was born and raised in Boyle Heights and is the daughter of Mexican immigrants. Maryann is a mother, DJ and curator of cultural events centered around music. She helped create the LA Chapter of Chulita Vinyl Club, an all women-of-color vinyl collective, in 2016. She utilizes music as a form of resistance to fight against the erasure of her culture. Maryann is also the Project Director at People for Mobility Justice, where she advocates for equitable and sustainable transportation policies and development and has helped develop culturally-relevant programming that meaningfully engages transit-dependent residents across Los Angeles County.
