Encuentro 33: Afro-Latinidades en la Bahia y Guatemala

To support Encuentro 33 signifies granting an opportunity for me to travel to Guatemala to collaborate with queer Guatemalan performance artists as well as conduct choreographic research in Peten and Puerto Barrios, specifically connecting to, dancing with, and having conversations with the ruins and the Garifuna community. This project culminates in a short-film, zine/text, and a live performance in Guatemala and the Bay Area. The intention behind Encuentro 33 is to reconnect with my ancestral lineage through a queer aesthetic choreographic lens and begin to answer my own questions around my Afro-Latinx identity, specifically around healing, medicine, and dance.
